3 Easy Ways to “De-Stress” Your Holidays

  • Pamper Yourself! That endless roll of wrapping paper and those millions of presents waiting to be adorned wouldn’t be such an ordeal if you had started wrapping them early – like in July. When the holidays have you feeling a bit overwhelmed, take some time to indulge in something for yourself alone: take a bubble bath… get a head-to-toe massage… watch a funny movie. You’ll feel refreshed and will be able to tackle any holiday project that comes your way – even preparing a nine-course dinner for your in-laws.

  • Get Out and Stroll! The kids are bouncing off the walls from eating too many candy canes. You forgot to buy your spouse a holiday gift. The pretty decorations almost started the next great fire. Allow yourself a brisk walk around the block to regroup and rejuvenate. Exercise increases endorphins, which is a substance in your brain that gives you a natural – and legitimate – high. So continue walking and you’ll have more energy and a better mood throughout the entire holiday season.

  • Accept, Relax, Delegate! Those sappy holiday TV movies are fun to watch but there’s a reason that everything works out perfectly – it’s TV. In real life, there is no perfect holiday. Relatives argue. People spill eggnog on your carpet. The homemade cookies burn in the oven. Don’t stress by expecting a Currier and Ives holiday this year. Accept that your holidays will have some imperfections and you’ll feel more relaxed. And this year, let someone else do some of the work for you: have your local bakery make your holiday cookies.
